CO₂ Laser for Pigmentation, Sun Damage and Uneven Skin: What to Know Before Treatment

Have you started to notice pigmentation, sun damage or an uneven skin tone that no longer seems to respond to your usual skincare?

You’re certainly not alone.

Pigmentation can become more noticeable over time, particularly after years of sun exposure. Skin can also start to look less even in tone and texture as we age.

At Facial & Body Sculpting Clinics in Egham, we offer advanced CO₂ laser skin resurfacing for clients who want to improve the appearance of concerns including pigmentation, sun damage, fine lines, acne scarring and uneven skin texture.

But is CO₂ laser the right treatment for pigmentation?

Here’s what you should know before booking.

What causes pigmentation and uneven skin tone?

Pigmentation can develop for a number of reasons.

Sun exposure is one of the biggest contributors to uneven pigmentation, while hormonal changes, ageing and previous skin inflammation can also play a role.

Some people notice darker patches after pregnancy or hormonal changes, while others develop areas of sun damage after years spent outdoors.

This is one reason why we don’t believe in taking a “one treatment fits all” approach.

Before recommending treatment, your skin needs to be assessed properly.

What is CO₂ laser skin resurfacing?

CO₂ laser skin resurfacing is an advanced treatment that uses controlled laser energy to treat the skin while stimulating the body’s natural healing response.

At our Egham clinic, CO₂ laser treatment is used for concerns including:

  • Pigmentation and sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Skin laxity
  • Stretch marks

The treatment can be tailored depending on the area being treated and your individual concerns.

The aim isn’t simply to “remove” a problem from the surface.

The treatment also encourages the skin to regenerate and produce new collagen as it heals.

Could CO₂ laser be right for pigmentation?

CO₂ laser can be a useful option for certain pigmentation and sun-damage concerns, but not every pigmentation problem should be treated in the same way.

This is particularly important because pigmentation can have different causes and different skin types respond differently to treatment.

That is why we carry out a consultation and skin assessment before treatment.

At Facial & Body Sculpting, a patch test is required before CO₂ laser treatment.

Your practitioner can then assess your skin and explain whether CO₂ laser is appropriate, what level of treatment may be suitable and what you can realistically expect.

What happens during a CO₂ laser consultation?

Your consultation is an important part of the process.

We will discuss:

Your skin concerns
What are you hoping to improve?

Your medical and treatment history
Have you had previous treatments? Are there any factors that need to be considered?

Your skin
Your skin type and current condition will help determine whether CO₂ laser is appropriate.

Your goals
Some clients are mainly concerned about pigmentation. Others want to improve several concerns at the same time.

The treatment plan is then tailored around you.

What is the downtime after CO₂ laser?

One of the biggest questions we hear is:

“How much downtime will I need?”

That depends on the treatment intensity and the area being treated.

Our current treatment information advises approximately 5–7 days of redness and peeling, with fuller healing generally taking around 10–14 days, although this varies by individual and treatment.

This is one reason we recommend planning your treatment carefully.

If you have a wedding, holiday or important event coming up, mention it during your consultation so we can advise you appropriately.

When will you see results?

CO₂ laser isn’t an overnight treatment.

Your skin needs time to heal and regenerate.

As the skin recovers, clients may notice improvements in texture and tone, while collagen remodelling continues over the following weeks and months.

The exact result depends on your skin, the concern being treated and the treatment plan recommended for you.

Why choose a CO₂ laser clinic in Egham?

At Facial & Body Sculpting, our Egham clinic is based at 66a High Street, with free parking.

We welcome clients from across the surrounding area, including Egham, Staines, Virginia Water, Windsor, Chertsey and Ascot, as well as Sunbury and surrounding parts of Surrey and Middlesex.

Most importantly, we don’t believe in recommending a treatment simply because it is popular.

Our approach starts with a consultation, an assessment and an honest conversation about what is actually appropriate for your skin.

Is CO₂ laser suitable for everyone?

No single skin treatment is suitable for everyone.

Your skin type, pigmentation, medical history, previous treatments and expectations all need to be considered before treatment.

That is why consultation and patch testing are an important part of our process.
